New MCI Postdoc to Explore Chinese Activism in 20th Century Britain

A new MCI postdoc will conduct a two-year study of Chinese political activism in 20th century Britain.

Dr Sha Zhou

Dr Sha Zhou received her BA and MA in English Language and Literature in China, and a MRes in Historical Research at the Institute of Historical Research, University of London.

She then obtained a PhD in Contemporary British History from King鈥檚 College London in 2021, with a thesis on the migration of ethnic Chinese women to post-war Britain.

Most recently, she worked at the School of International Studies/Academy of Overseas Chinese Studies at Jinan University.

Sha鈥檚 research at MCI will look at grassroots Chinese activism in twentieth-century urban Britain.

The ethnic Chinese community in Manchester has a long history, and is rapidly evolving. Manchester also boasts a very proud history of social and political activism, such as fighting for worker鈥檚 and women鈥檚 rights. MCI is thus the perfect home for Sha鈥檚 project, and we are delighted to have her join our team.
